Grandma and Grandpa met John, who is a doctor at 'The Good News Hospital' ( Hopitaly Vaovao Mahafaty) in Madagascar where there are many children with 'club feet'. The hospital was opened in 1996 to provide Healthcare to a region half the area of Wales, in the remote north of Madagascar. The principal health needs include tropical diseases such as malaria, malnutrition and the effects of a very frugal lifestyle. There is a great problem with maternal care, a very high infant and childbirth mortality. As well as providing hospital care a recent programme to train local villagers to support their own communities has seen some success. There is an urgent need for well-educated and locally aware nurses to support the health care programme. All medical and nursing care is provided within the context of the local church, and is centred on the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, giving the Hospital its name - literally in Malagasy - ' The Hospital with news that makes you happy'
